The Warmest Week – Pelicano Foundation
Every year VRT organises a solidarity action which is now widely known as “The Warmest Week”. In the week before Christmas, anyone can launch an initiative that can make a difference for someone else. Initiatives are launched for the underprivileged, the elderly and young people in loneliness, people without a way out, people who are ill…
This year the focus of “The Warmest Week” is not so much on donations but on volunteering, on which every charity is based. Similarly, the Pelicano foundation has decided to thank their 450 care partners (volunteers).
Care partners of the Pelicano foundation support more than 1250 Pelicano children, they detect poverty and then follow up children closely. They are the direct link with the children living in poverty. In an almost invisible way, they support the Pelicano children during their studies. This ranges from payments for school outings, to making sure the sandwich box is not empty in the afternoon. Through this ‘invisible’ help, these children can simply participate in school life and get equal opportunities to study. It was a challenge to succeed all children in 2020, but all the supervisors have taken care of this perfectly. To thank them for their double efforts this year, the Pelicano foundation is happy to put them in the spotlight. They do this with thank-you packages for the care partners.
Each thank you package contains three types of delicious caramelised biscuits, sponsored by La Confiance. The packaging is done via a sheltered workshop of the psychiatric centre in Beernem.
The parcels are then collected and distributed free of charge by the parcel service of On Time Logistics, which will deliver the parcels anywhere in Belgium. We are very happy to be able to contribute a little bit to this fantastic initiative in this way.
In this way, and thanks to various collaborations, Pelicano can thank its care providers.
